Toy Cars: 1:64 Aston Martin DBS by Hotwheels 2010 and 1:60 Aston Martin DBS by Corgi


I've never been a fan of Aston Martins until Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace came out.

These last 2 James Bond movies were intense, more realistic and more brutal than the other Bond films. Which is great as it infused something new to the franchise.

Bottomline: If you like Bond movies, intense stunts and action then you can't go wrong watching these 2 movies on DVD and Blu-Ray!

It wasn't easy getting the Hotwheels version even though it just came out. It took me about a month before I was lucky enough to get a copy. Of the two versions, the Corgi edition has more detail and better quality.

TOY: 1/64 scale ECTO-1 from Hotwheels

After being kicked out of their University, professors Venkman, Spengler and Stantz set up shop in an old firehouse as Ghostbusters. They rid the city of ghosts and spirits for money. Business was bad until They stumbled upon a cataclysmic event that threatened the whole city and they were called in to save the day.

Ghostbusters is one of my all time favorite movies as a kid. I used to draw the Ghostbusters logo on ALL my notebooks and watched the cartoon series regularly. Sure the special effects may seem dated now but the movie is fun to watch. Bill Muray was at his best in this movie who seems to have ready snide quips at any given opportunity.



About the diecast: From where I live all of the ECTO-1s seem to have been hoarded by toy collectors as I have not found a single ECTO-1 in any of the major shopping centers (and I've been to about 6!). I was able to get this in the secondary market and I paid about 3x more than the standard Hot Wheels price. It's not that bad really as at that price point it costs just about the same as a Greenlight or Johnny Lighting 1/64 diecast.




Hunting for this baby was so much fun as it was really a challenge. As of this writing, the secondary market price for this hot cast has gone up and is now about 5x more than the retail price of a regular Hot wheels. Getting one at that price would still be worth it as ECTO-1 was one of those iconic 80s movie cars.




Overall build is excellent as it captures the movie version accurately. However, the car does lack detail. For starters it does not have the ECTO-1 plate, second, the paint job (at least mine did) is sloppy as it had paint clumps and lastly, it would have been great if they had more detai in the roof ornament or an opening hood or an opening back door to pull out the gun racks. But they had none of these little touches that would have made this version an absolute must have.

It's still a nice diecast though and is a definite head turner in any collector's showcase. Here are some more pictures of the awesome car. 'til then, happy toy hunting!

The Faculty

TOY: 1970 Chevelle SS, Hot Wheels series 2006

After searching through the internet, as I reckoned going to the public library and searching thru pages of documents would be a tad too tedious, I was able to get the name of the car that appeared in the movie, the Faculty directed by Robert Rodriguez.

I haven't seen the movie so I really cannot comment on it but since I have the diecast car that was used in the show, I figured Faculty fans can get a kick out of it.

Knight Rider 1982

What is a blog about T.V. Cars without K.I.T.T.!

True story: When Knight Rider came out I named my BMX bike KITT. And I used to ride around the neighborhood with "KITT" and I was "a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless"...It had super pursuit mode (pedal really fast) and turbo boost (road humps only as I was too chicken to try the actual ramps). Of course I dare not try the eject function of my "KITT" as I imagined that could be much too painful. But I digress....onto the actual KITT....


The show starred David Hasselhof, and for those too young to remember him, he was the "Hoff" from the show Baywatch. Anyway, the show had a talking car as it had artificial intelligence and had really cool functions like the aforementioned turbo boost and super pursuit mode and it was bullet proof! Watching it now though I find the show too cheesy and lame but when you're 10 it would probably be the coolest thing since Atari...err I mean PS3...

The Hot Wheels car that I got was a happy accident as I never really thought I could get one as the show was cancelled when Ronald Reagan was still President. The car was just collecting dust in one of those out of the way hobby shops and when I saw it I just had to purchase it. It did come at a premium price though but it was worth it! My "KITT" may have retired but now I have my very own KITT.

Now if only I can get it to move on its own and try the ejector seat, now that would be sumthin.....

The Wonder Years

TOY: 1964 Ford Galaxie, Hot Wheels 2007 Series


Years ago when there was no cable, we used to enjoy shows through an apparatus called the antenna. Yes, it was a metallic thing that we used to point to the source of the signal to get the shows to appear on our T.V.! Can you imagine? Anyway, we used to get shows from the nearby U.S. military base and one of the shows that I enjoyed watching was the Wonder Years. It starred Fred Savage (The Boy Who Could Fly and Princess Bride) and was the story of a boy, growing up in, well the wonder years around ages 9-15 I guess. It was told through the first person narrative and had a lot of memorable moments.


The show had a stern father, a caring mother, an older sister who doesn't want to be bothered and an older brother who doesn't want to be associated with his younger brother....so basically your typical household. In one episode they needed to get a new car because their old car was really gettng old. And so, after remembering that episode I tried to track down one of the cars used in the show. It was the Ford Galaxie 1969 version.

Unfortunately, after searching everywhere, I couldn't find that car. So I got the closest thing in terms of appearance and color, the Ford Galaxie 1964 edition!

There is something about old cars that I find appealing. It could be because of nostalgia or it could be because the new cars are like facial wipes; you use them once and you get a new one. In the old days...let me rephrase that...as I was told from the old days, cars used to stay in the family for a long time. Old cars seem to be like part of the family, an integral part so it seems.


So without further ado, I present to you one of my latest hauls...the 1964 Ford Galaxie. Enjoy!
